Emmy Recap
I found myself watching the Emmys last night. I usually enjoy a good awards show. There weren't any real fashion disasters to speak of. I think Vanessa Williams pulled off the feathered gown with no problems. Although she could probably wear a burlap sack and still look good.
And I did laugh out loud when Giuliana from E! asked Omar Epps' pregnant wife "who" she was wearing. I think she was expecting a designer name, but instead got "A Pea in a Pod" as a response. She tried to cover by saying something like "oh wow...they make couture?" Nice try. Omar, you can't be a celebrity if you're wife is wearing off-the-rack mall clothing to the red carpet. Sorry.
This year the stage was "in the round" as they say in show biz. Bad idea. All the winners commented that they felt like they were ignoring a large portion of the audience. Speaking of the winners...could Tony Bennett or Robert Duvall give a more stilted convulted incoherent acceptance speech? And they kept winning. You felt the collective groan across the nation when their names were called. And how about Helen Mirren giving Americans a backhanded compliment in her speech? Uncool. You may be an award winning actress, but we still remember you from your role in Caligula. You're not that high class, honey. Roll the tape.
Christina Aguilera was amazing, but she overpowered Tony Bennett who, let's face it, needs to retire. The dancers in their performance were not enough to camouflage the fact that Tony needed a rest.
Kanye West seemed like a good sport in the "Don't Forget the Lyrics" bit, but Rainn Wilson loses points for being involved in the 'let's laugh at the white guy acting like a black guy' schtick. I'm over it.
The video of the writers for the Bill Maher show was hysterical. They were all tapping their feet and acting inappropriately in an obvious homage to Senator Craigs' mensroom shenanigans. Classic.
At one point they paraded out the entire cast of the Sopranos who just stood there. And when I say "entire" I mean it. I think "Man in Elevator" and "Girl #2" were there. There were way too many people on the stage for absolutely no reason. Mostly likely we will never see some of these people again on screen (big or small).
And finally...what is with Ryan Seacrest?!?!
